- STEP 1: Apply for your passports and visas, if necessary, well in advance. Sometimes they can take up to 10 weeks to arrive.
- STEP 2: Talk about your expectations and priorities. If you're planning adventures every day, and your intended wants to lie on the beach, you may be disappointed.
- STEP 3: Pack appropriate clothes and choose wrinkle-resistant clothing. Who wants to iron on a honeymoon?
- STEP 4: Remember your necessities - but don't sweat it if you forget your toothpaste or film. Unless you're going somewhere very remote, you can pick up forgotten items just about anywhere.
- STEP 5: Plan to share the basics (shampoo, toothpaste, etc.), so that you don't have to pack twice the amount. Be sure to put liquids in resealable plastic bags in case they leak.
- STEP 6: Pack your tickets and confirmation numbers, passports and other identification, traveler's checks and credit cards. Make photocopies of all of these items and stash them with a family member.
- STEP 7: Don't forget your lingerie, candles, bubble bath, extra socks, prescriptions, sunscreen, motion sickness medicine and extra contact lenses.
- STEP 8: Pack your camera - and include a couple of single-use cameras for times when you don't want to lug around your camera bag.
- STEP 9: Bring along stamps and your address book. You can send yourself postcards from the places you visit.
- STEP 10: Bring along an extra bag to fill with souvenirs and duty-free goodies.
- Leave your itinerary and phone numbers with a family member, just in case.
- Make sure your name matches on your reservations, tickets, identification papers, visas, passports and credit cards. If you're changing your name, it's easiest to keep all documents under your maiden name for the honeymoon; you can change them after you get back.
- Remember that it may take a few days to wind down from the wedding. That's normal.
